Senior Adviser - Controllership
We are looking for a Senior Advisor - Controllership to be responsible for providing the business with timely and accurate financial statements and analysis in accordance with the IFRS and Rio Tinto policies.
This position is an excellent opportunity to join the regional team based in Gurgaon. This dynamic team is responsible to deliver optimal controllership support to Product & Non-Product Groups and all Business Units (BU). Working in a collaborative environment the team is responsible for coordinating and ensuring a high quality of all accounting, financial reporting (statutory & group), technical support and compliance services are delivered to all Business Units. Reporting to Manager - Closure, Marine and Climate change reporting, you will:
- Provide analysis of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial results that will serve for external and management reporting
- Review and Analyze Derivatives positions including OTC, ETD, hedges and their impact on Financial Statements
- Update various contract related accrual or provision models
- Partner with the Closing & Reporting (C&R), Statutory Reporting and Finance Business Partners (FBPs) and Other Support teams to enhance financial services provided to the BUs
- Ensure compliance with IFRS standards, Internal controls, SOX standards and Rio Tintos accounting policies

- Responsible for preparing accounting paper for derivative instruments and other complex accounting issues, ensuring alignment with business inputs and full compliance with applicable IFRS standards
- Review statutory financials and prepare financial summary / analysis for board meetings
- Support Internal and External Audits
- Support all transition projects, as may fall in scope
- Support the controllership function to standardize and optimize its processes
- Manage ad-hoc requests from various stakeholders
- Ensure all balance sheet components like inventory and sales figures are accurate
- Support teams projects or initiatives focused on simplification, standardization and automation
- Solve accounting / structuring / process complex problems and recommend IFRS compliant solutions
- Other ad hoc responsibilities as directed by management
The role is part of the Southern Hemisphere Controllership team and will be primarily responsible for Marine and Other Commercial entities (with rotation flexibility within Controllership India team). This role would be responsible for providing IFRS technical accounting and financial reporting support, while also facilitating the transfer of more entities from our Product & Non-Product Groups.
The role could also be involved on an ad hoc basis supporting other Controllership responsibilities within Closure, Climate Change and Commercial space.
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
- Minimum 10 - 12 years of experience in finance including team management preferably CA/MBA
- Mandatory working knowledge of Derivatives (OTC and ETD), Hedge accounting and Netting of Derivatives exposure
- Working knowledge of IFRS 9, IFRS16, IFRS 15, IAS 21, IAS 32
- Preferrable experience of matrix environment or multiple geography accounting
- Knowledge of SAP and advanced Excel skills
- Proactive and the ability to work independently
- Strong analytical skills and critical thinking
- Strong stakeholder management and team player
- Ability to lead & grow a team
